You can use a plastic pot to move your mixture to the outdoors to replant into your summer garden. Remember that there is a period of time that your new tomato mixture will need to get adjusted to the outdoors. You want to put the pots into a shaded area for about 7 days so that it will not get to hot in the summer weather. Bring the pots in at night and back in the outdoors during the day time.

The tomato is an essential part of my vegetable garden every year. I plan the rest of my garden around my tomatoes. They are that important to many gardeners. One thing about planting tomatoes is they are not that hard to grow. Add some tender loving care and a little water and compost and you should be enjoying this wonderful plants harvest before you know it.

By following a few simple steps you will be well on your way to a great tomato season. Start by deciding whether you want to start your plants from seed or by buying plants at your local nursery. Next you should pick a few different varieties so your harvest will not all come at the same time. Put your plants in a spot that will get plenty of sun and add some compost or fertilizer. This article will look at a few ways to increase your chances of having a better tomato harvest.

You will have plenty of choices when you decide to plant a few tomatoes. The first decision you need to make is to decide if you want to start your plants from seed or buy plants. There are good reasons to go either way. Planting from seed will save you some money, as a pack of seed will usually cost less than tomato plants. You also will generally have a better choice of different varieties when starting from seed. Planting tomatoes that you buy from your local nursery has some advantages as well. You only need to plant the best looking plants you can find. Seeing how green and lush a plant is will help you pick out the best ones.

I like to plant a few different types of tomatoes plants. This will extend my harvest because I always pick a few plants that produce fruit early and a few more that come later in the growing season. I also always add a couple of cherry tomato plants to my garden as well.

Picking your gardening spot is very important. Your gardens success or failure may depend on where it is. You will need to plant somewhere that gets a lot of sun. My plants seem to do better if they are in a spot that gets least six hours of sun each day. I think more is better in the case of tomatoes. Make sure your planting spot can be watered without a lot of trouble. When you do not get an inch of rain a week you will need to water your plants so they can thrive.

Planting tomatoes is a very satisfying thing to do. Follow a good plan and you should be enjoying the fruits of your labor well into the fall.

deciding to grow tomatoes from seeds few issues need to be addressed as they directly influence further stages of tomato growing process. You will have to spend some time choosing the right soil and planting the right amount of seeds in order to get the best results. This way you will end up with the anticipated quantity of tomato plants ready to be transplanted outside in your garden bed in time for the growing season.

The first thing you will want to do is to start with clean potting soil. Do not use the soil from outside to start your plants. The best thing to do then is to go to the local nursery or garden center and pick up some good organic potting soil. You will then want to add the soil to nursery trays, or better yet, to flats that separate the pants from one another. This is beneficial when transplanting them when the time comes.

Let’s suppose that your target is to end up with 100 plants ready to be transplanted outside into your garden bed. Planting 20 % more seeds than the amount of the pants you want to end up with is a good idea. The reason for this is that not all seeds will germinate. Then there will almost always be a couple that will germinate, but the plants will not thrive. So generally speaking, if you want to put out 100 plants, then plant about 120 seeds. This way you will also provide yourself with few additional plants that can be used later on as a substitution for the ones that died out.

If you plant several different varieties of tomatoes, you’ll want to make sure that you label them. The plants will all look alike! Once all the plants have gotten their real leaves, it’s time to begin the first transplantation. They should be moved to individual growing containers such as a paper cup in order that they be able to better thrive and grow. If plants are bunched up, the growth will be stunted and you’ll end up with plants that are poorly producing. The best way to remove them from their starter pot is to use a kitchen fork. It works well with lifting the plants from the soil and causes less shock on the plants roots.

Now, depending upon the size of the paper cup or other container used in this first transplantation, you may or may not have to transplant them again before they go into the garden bed. It is then, in your best interest to plant them in paper cups large enough to hold them until they are about 6 inches or so tall, and ready to go into the outdoor garden bed. As soon as the last frost has passed and the plants achieved the required height you can put them outdoors.

The best way I have found to do this, and it causes very little shock to the roots, is to tear or cut away the paper cup from the entire thing, leaving the existing soil in place and putting them in the garden exactly that way.

Good luck in your growing! It won’t be long before you’ll be enjoying fresh juicy tomatoes, straight from the vine!

With the growing interest in organic food, it is no surprise there is also a growing demand for organic wine.  Generally organic wines cost more as there is limited production and there are lower yields in the organic vineyards than in vineyards maintained with non-organic pesticides and fertilizers.

What is the exact definition of an organic wine?  An organic wine is defined in most countries as a wine produced from grapes grown organically and that has no, or a limited amount of, sulphites.  Many people prefer to buy organic wine because they are interested in reducing their carbon footprint, appreciate the flavour of organically produced wine and are seeking the health benefits of organic produce.

Organic wine is wine made from grapes grown organically and is then produced in a process that does not use preservatives or uses the absolute minimum required to protect the wine quality.  The process begins with the farming techniques used to produce the high quality grapes and ends with the method used for fermentation.

A Light Carbon Footstep in the Vineyard

Organic farming of grapes means the crop is grown without the use of synthetic chemicals for fertilizing or insect control.  But organic farming also refers to planting and harvesting methods which protect soil quality and stability.

Wine made with organically grown grapes is considered to be healthier by many people because the grapes are grown using only natural products.   When you drink organic wine, you don’t have to worry about how many chemicals you might be unknowingly consuming.

Organic Wine Flavour and Preservation

Organic wine offers some very special qualities.  Many of the wines are made without sulphites.  Technically an organic wine does not have to be sulphite free but can simply be made with organically grown grapes.  Interestingly, sulphites are avoided by a large number of wine drinkers.

In conventional wine making, sulphites are added to increase the stability and preservation of the wine.  In organic wines you will find a selection of both sulphite-free and low-sulphite wines.  White wines are fermented without the skins and seeds so they usually need a minimum amount of sulphites since the wine has a lower amount of preserving tannins.  Red wines are fermented with the skins so they have more natural preservatives in the form of tannins.

You should only purchase a bottle of sulphite-free or minimum-sulphite organic wine if you intend on drinking it shortly after purchase.

Competing on an Even Basis

Wine lovers are sometimes surprised to discover the growing enchantment with organic wines.  Not only are they produced in a way that causes the least amount of environmental harm, the wines are flavourful and award-winning.  The organic wine market is just beginning to flourish and it is expected to grow tremendously as people become more and more environmentally aware.

Organic winemaking differs from non-organic methods primarily in the use of fertilizers and pesticides.  However, there are many other subtle differences such as the amount of sulphites which also define organic winemaking.  The organic winemaker must pay even more attention to the details of the process as related to grape selection and the filtering process.

Many people insist on drinking organic wine because they feel it has more personality.  Organically grown wine is processed less and relies on grape perfection for flavour.  For those who want to lighten their carbon footprint while also discovering the depth of individuality wine can achieve, organic wine is the only choice.

In this day and age we are becoming more and more obsessed with organic products. Organic food is all the rage, and now organic beauty products are also taking a center stage. So just how good are these products for us? Are they really that much different from ordinary products?

The Benefits of Organic Skin Care

With so many chemicals in ordinary skin care products, it is shocking to think that we plaster our skin with creams and lotions every single day, yet we do not know what is in them. We have an amazing sense of trust in the manufacturers of skin care products, yet it seems that we are really being let down in a big way!

Ordinary products contain chemicals such as alcohol and lead. Alcohol is extremely drying on the skin and it can cause all kinds of problems, yet we spread it onto the skin without much thought. However, some people are seeing the light and more and more of us are turning to the benefits of natural products. Below are a few benefits of using organic products over ordinary, chemical-packed ones:

Gentle Enough For Even Sensitive Skin

As organic products are made form natural ingredients, they are often really good for people who suffer from sensitive skin. However, there are some natural chemicals included in organic products so you should always see if you are allergic to any of the ingredients before trying them.

What You See is What You Get

With organic products you know exactly what you are getting. There are no hidden downsides and you can rest assured that you are using the best ingredients for your skin.

They Do Not Always Have to be More Expensive

Although organic products are generally more expensive than ordinary ones, as they mainly use natural ingredients, it is possible to create some of your own recipes. This is not really expensive, and you are getting the bets of both worlds as you get to try out natural products, and you know exactly what is going into them.

Homemade Organic Skin Care

All you sometimes need to make your own organic skin care products is to open your kitchen cupboard. There are plenty of ingredients there which can help to give you beautiful, glowing skin the natural way!

For example, baking soda is great rubbed onto the skin once a week whilst you are in the shower. It can also be good to remove blackheads. If you have oily skin, fresh tomatoes are great for treating the oily areas of your face. However, some people may be allergic to the tomato juice, so always test on your arm before trying it on the face.

Vinegar is also another one of natures miracles. Apparently it works wonders on smelly armpits and feet. All you do is mix 50% of vinegar and 50% water, and use instead of your ordinary deodorant. Vinegar is also good for athletes foot and if you give your feet a vinegar bath every day for a week, the condition usually clears up pretty well.

If you fancy making your own face mask, mixing egg yolk with honey often makes a good one. Simply leave it on the skin for 20 minutes and then rinse it off. This is great for people with sensitive skin, though the honey can cause a tingling sensation. If this happens to you it is possible to use only the egg yolk.

Overall, home made organic skin care products may be a little messier sometimes and they may not smell as nice as ordinary products, but at least you know what you are getting. Your skin really will love you for it, and your purse will too!

Organic fruit and vegetable boxes are gaining in popularity as consumers become increasingly alarmed by the dangers of pesticide residue. Organic fruit and vegetable boxes are not available in every place, but some places have wonderful programs that accept standing orders.

In London, organic fruit and vegetable boxes are delivered weekly. It’s a great way to get nutritional organic fruit and vegetables without relying on a local market. A typical box delivered in May might contain fresh organic fruit and vegetables such as broad beans, carrots, cauliflower, celery, lettuce, loquats, onions, pears, potatoes, radishes, rhubarb, spinach, and tomatoes.

London organic fruit and vegetable boxes offer families a range of fresh organic fruit and vegetables. Box contents change from week to week, and from season to season. Organic fruit and vegetables that are at their peak locally are chosen. If certain produce cannot be grown locally, imported organic fruit such as bananas, for example, are included.

London organic fruit and vegetable boxes are sold according to family size. Small boxes of organic fruit and vegetables suit a couple; medium boxes feed 3 people; large boxes feed 4.

Customers simply go online and order the size of organic fruit and vegetable boxes they want. They may then add extra organic fruit and vegetables. They tell how many weeks they want to receive boxes, and give a name and address. The boxes are delivered automatically as many weeks as they wish.

Some organic fruit and vegetable box shippers in Great Britain include the option of organic items such as eggs, cheese, jam, and salmon.

After finding 7 London organic fruit and vegetable boxes, we found many more throughout England, Scotland, and Wales.

Other Organic Fruit and Vegetable Programs

The organic fruit and vegetable boxes of Great Britain are not alone in offering shipment of organic fruit and vegetables. Other companies are also providing fresh organic fruit and vegetables with the convenience of delivery. Many offer weekly or bi-weekly deliveries that you can start, stop, or hold at any time.

Organic fruit and vegetable boxes may contain a vegetable or organic fruit that you have never prepared. Most of these companies take that into consideration, and offer online recipes. Some organic fruit and vegetable box delivery companies also invite subscription to a regular newsletter.

Here are a few organic fruit and vegetable box shippers we found in other English-speaking countries. This is not meant to be an exhaustive list.

1. Australia: Organic fruit and vegetable boxes in Australia and New Zealand make it easier for customers in the country areas to have fresh organic produce, even if they themselves can’t engage in organic gardening. We found regular delivery of organic fruit and vegetable boxes in Perth and western Australia - in Melbourne and Victorian areas - and in the Sydney area.

2. Canada: from British Columbia eastward to Ontario and beyond, many Canadians also enjoy home delivery of organic fruit and vegetable boxes. We found a great place in Ontario that named their box sizes, small to large: Harvest, Family Harvest, and Super Harvest. Like others, their box contents change weekly due to seasonal changes, but you can visit their website to hear what’s in your box ahead of time. If you don’t like an organic fruit or vegetable that’s scheduled, you can make substitutions. Another great option offered by the same company is the opportunity at sign-up to indicate items you never want to receive!

3. New Zealand: Organic fruit and vegetable boxes from Auckland are delivered across New Zealand’s North Island in a plan similar to those found in Great Britain and Australia. On New Zealand’s South Island, customers can order organic fruit and vegetable boxes from shippers in Nelson and the Canterbury area. A 5-year old in the Nelson, New Zealand area summed up the fun of getting surprise organic fruit and vegetables in a box each week: “I like your veggies that come in the box. Thank you.” Lara.

4. United States: Organic fruit and vegetables from Texas are available online for shipment to various parts of the U.S. On most websites, you type in your zip code to see if delivery is available in your area. Organic fruit and vegetable boxes from Texas feature a wide variety of produce. Climate makes these boxes available year round. Organic fruit and vegetable boxes from California, Oregon, and Florida are also plentiful. You can find shippers that ship to all 48 contiguous states, usually with next-day delivery.

Suggestion

If you are a member of a group that would like to help a family in need, you could arrange weekly delivery of organic fruit and vegetable boxes to the home or office. To be truly helpful, do it anonymously.

Organizing your kitchen does not have to be expensive. We have all seen those wonderful makeover shows where teams of professionals with a budget written by advertising agencies redo every room of the house. The results are usually stunning, but the price tag is a real stopper. You do not have to spend a fortune to get your kitchen organized, though. Here are seven tips to get your kitchen organized on a budget.

1. Start with an honest assessment of your space, your needs and your clutter.

Before you begin purchasing expensive organizers, sit down and make a plan. Figure out what you need, what you do not and what you can do better. This is where you sort through the appliances present in your kitchen or tucked under the counter and decide which of them you really need. Can you do without that waffle iron you have used once in six years? Does the blender really need to be sitting on the counter? How many pots and pans do you really need to keep?

2. Organize your pantry with racks and steps.

If your pantry shelves are deep, it is easy to forget what is hiding behind the cans of stewed tomatoes. Invest in some inexpensive adjustable styrene step shelves. The plastic steps turn one flat, deep shelf into a tiered shelf that allows items in the back to be equally as visible as those located in the front of the shelf. While you are at it, invest in some hanging racks of the type that slide onto the shelf above. They make good use of the lost space beneath each shelf for storing small items like spice jars and toothpick boxes. Shelves and racks help create an organized area, which allows you to carefully store related products.

3. Organize your counters with mug trees, racks and mini-shelves.

Stackable solutions allow you to store much more on your counter without worrying about wasted space. A mug tree is an excellent product for organizing coffee mugs. A mug tree fits in the corner of your counter and holds several mugs. This serves an important purpose of providing you with an organizational product that makes it easy to retrieve the mug that you want.

4. Organize your food storage with inexpensive storage containers.

Toss out all those margarine tubs and Cool Whip containers and invest in a real food storage system. The Freshvac Plus collections of storage containers include either square or rectangular containers or a crisper to keep your produce and leftovers fresh longer. You can save money for your budget by using containers that keep your food fresh.

5. Organize your refrigerator with storage containers and shelves.

One of the most budget-friendly purchases you can make is a set of Green Bags – the wonder reusable storage bags you have seen on TV. They have been proven to keep produce, meat and even bread fresh for longer so that you waste less and save money. You can save space in your refrigerator with a 2-tier can carousel that stores up to 13 cans of soda in just 9 inches of fridge shelf space.

6. Organize with unused space.

Most kitchens have a lot of wasted space that few people even consider. One of the least expensive and easiest ways to add an entire mini-pantry to your kitchen is with a pantry door shelf. The pantry door shelf turns the back of any door into a full set of eight, adjustable shelves that are deep enough to hold canned goods, cereal boxes and tall bottles. Make better use of your kitchen doors with a door organizer. A door organizer is a canvas pocket organizer that hangs on your kitchen doorknob. This door organizer is designed to keep track of your keys, cell phone and other small items that can easily become lost.

7. Organize your food by expiration date.

When you put your groceries away, resist the temptation to place the new foods at the front of the shelf. Instead, store the newest food behind the older food. This allows your older food to be used first preventing these foods from spoiling. There are many products available to help keep track of your food expiration dates. The easiest way to keep track of this information is by remembering to rotate your inventory of food products.

Organizing your kitchen on a budget does not have to be a difficult task. There are many products available to help create a clutter free kitchen while saving money. Main tips for organizing your kitchen consist of finding a product to help consolidate your kitchen accessories while providing easy access when you need them. A few examples to consider are shelves, mug tree, cabinets and storage containers. These tips can help create an excellent experience in the kitchen because everything can be organized and easy to find.

Planning your organic vegetable garden isn’t a difficult step, but it is important.  If you start without a good plan, your garden could fail miserably.  A good organic vegetable garden can provide a cost savings versus purchasing at the supermarket.  When you cut out the profit to the farmer and the middle man, you save a lot more than you can imagine.  It takes a little time, but with some effort you could end up selling your very own vegetables to help subsidise your own income.

So, the first thing you want to do is decide what to plant.  That is an article in itself and I assume you already have an idea.  If not, as soon as you are done reading this article, look up different vegetables to plant.

The worst thing you could do is rush into your yard and start plugging holes into the ground without a plan.  There are some things to consider when it comes to your garden location that could cost you time and money if you aren’t careful.  So, once you have all of your supplies and you have decided what vegetables you are going to grow, it is time to plan out your garden.

Start with a sketch of what you would like your garden to look like.  Get a piece of paper and a pencil and draw out your plan.  Plan out exactly where you would like your garden to be, but be sure to pick a spot that will get plenty of sunshine.  Your best bet is to watch your yard for about a week prior to digging up your garden.  This will give you a great idea on what section of your yard is bathed in sunlight.

There are other things that you should be mindful of when selecting your site. Don’t use areas that have recently been repaired or that are near metal fences. The chemicals you recently used and the metal from the fence could be infecting the area and would contaminate your crops.  Another pitfall to avoid is divets in the ground.  If there is a large enough area that is low, it could cause water to pool after watering or a rain.  That stagnant water will drown your garden before it gets to start.

When you think you have the perfect spot, immediately stop using any chemicals in the area. When planting your seeds, aim for an efficient layout.  Beans or peas can be grown near corn.  This would allow you to use the corn stalk as a stake and save you the money and hassle in buying stakes.  A quick pest control tip is to plant onions, garlic, or basil.  The odor from these plants is a natural insect repellant.  Use them as a barrier on the outside of your garden to help control the pests.

So, there you have the simple steps of planning your organic garden.  Happy planting and feel free to offer me the first tomatoes.

Soil is very essential for a plant’s life. Many people would wonder how a plant would grow without the use of soil. Because of the many advances and new technological discoveries, everything can be made in an instant such as food, beverages, and even plants. There are new methods in these modern days where they can grow the plants fast.

The use of the traditional method of agriculture, which consists of the slow process of cultivating, watering, sowing, and attending to the plant everyday, became less popular to those gardeners who have learned the methods of organic hydroponics. Organic hydroponics lessens a gardener’s effort of growing the plant in an instant.

A person can grow his plants fast and can create more production by applying the methods of organic hydroponics. Others have known this method to be interesting in the first place, because it does not require the use of soil to raise the plants. Some people also know this process as soil-less culture, water gardening, soil-less gardening, and chemi-culture. For many farmers and gardeners it is commonly known as hydroponics gardening. This methodical way of gardening shows a simultaneous way of cultivating the plants without any presence of soil.

The needed nutrients needed by the plants are directly supplied on their roots. The organic chemical fertilizers must be in dissolved so that they will be fed for the plants. The nutrients must be soluble enough so that the roots will surely zip the solution. This is an amazing process that no soil is needed to complement the liquid provided to the plants.

Many greenhouses are now used in applying organic hydroponic fertilizers to their plants. However, there are still many greenhouse owners who do not want to perform this method on their plants. They believe that it is ecologically harmful and bad for the environment, but this could not be true according to many experts who study the science of hydroponics. They insist that in this way they could attend to the much needed demand of food supply nowadays.

This could be true because organic hydroponics allows the plant to quickly grow healthier. A gardener should also be satisfied to the increase of his crop production than his usual harvested crop. Here are some benefits and advantages of using organic and hydroponics gardening.

1. A person may not worry if the water fed to the plants could be less or enough for the roots.

2. He may not worry on the fertilizer or chemical solution applied to the plants because the amount may not matter as long as the plants is able to sustain its fast growth and production.

3. Many organic hydroponics greenhouses are used for many researches and studies for plant and seed propagation using the science of hydroponics. They seem to be valuable for many scientists that experiments about technological advancements on how to improve more on plant organic fertilizers and chemical solutions.

4. The space needed for holding the plants is now more convenient because he may use lesser space to accommodate and attend to more plants than being more concerned in potting and sowing or cultivating any soil.

5. Hydroponics gardening helps a person conserve more time and effort. It relieves a person on laborious work in attending to the different needs of the soil such as keeping the soil wet, sowing, weeding the soil, and nurturing the soil.

6. Plants can grow together even if they are grown close to each other. Unlike in traditional agriculture, the plants need more space because the soil creates bigger roots for the plants. In hydroponics gardening the roots of the plants grow smaller in contrast to a larger plant or crop.

7. A farmer can practice multiple cropping for he can harvest and plant the crops at the same time. He may realize that he harvested more crops compared to his previous harvest where he had used the normal way of planting.

8. He may be able to grow larger and healthier plants because of the organic fertilizer supplied on the roots of the plants.

Nowadays, hydroponics gardening is widely accepted by many farmers and gardeners. The presence of many organic hydroponic greenhouses is a proof to its popularity and accessibility to the needs of plants and crops in this modern time to accommodate more plant and crop production.

One of the latest crazes that has caught on all over the world, especially in light of global warming and its all of the food contaminations that people have experienced is the hobby of organic gardening. Not even considering the cost of vegetables that you have to pay at the local grocery store, the organic growth of food provides an alternative for those not wishing to pay supermarket prices, and also avoid all of the chemical contaminants that may appear in our daily food regiments. Here are a few tips on how you can prepare the way for a successful and fast-growing organic garden.

Before you start your organic garden, there are a few things you should consider before doing so and a lot of it has to do with your frame of mind. For instance, when you buy food at a grocery store that is not organically grown, many synthetic fertilizers are used, as well as pesticides, in order to keep many of the natural predators away from crops including disease, common weeds, and insects that love to devour freshly grown vegetables. By eliminating all of these additives, you can see yourself in the future being a more healthy person because you took the time to create a garden that is organically grown that will provide you and your family with healthier fresher food each and every day.

With this in mind, you should think of where you would like to grow your garden. If you live in the city, more than likely you will not have a large enough area in order to grow a garden in a size that would allow you to feed your family except for perhaps a few snacks on a weekly basis. If you do live in a rural area, and you do have some extra space with some decent soil, then you can probably be self-assured that your efforts to grow organic food will be ascertainable because you have the area to work with. Now you must consider your time and what you will need in order to make this work for you.

One of the first things you will need is a constant supply of compostable material such as grass clippings, leftover vegetables and scraps that you are not going to finish, and any kind of dead matter such as leaves in your yard that you have raked up. These will be composted and then mixed in with your soil in order to add nutrients for the crops that you are about to grow.

When looking at your soil, one of the first signs that you will be successful is the color of the soil. Rich dark soil, hopefully full of earthworms, will be a clear sign that your soil is ripe and ready for planting. You should also consider testing the pH balance of your soil to make sure that it is not too acidic or basic for the plants you are about to grow. Vegetables prefer a slightly acidic soil.

Make sure that you also have an ample supply of water that is readily available for your plants. Make sure that you do not overwater or underwater which means you may have to put in a sprinkler system on a timer or put yourself on a regimen that allows you to keep moisture levels just right. Having excessive wet or dry conditions will lead to possible infestations of insects and other creatures that may move in and destroy your crops before they are even harvestable.

Before the age of pesticides, people used natural solutions such as the common ladybug which can be used to prevent certain insects from moving in. Certain spices are also used such as garlic or any spice that has a pungent odor which will repel many types of invaders that will want to eat your crops.

If you are truly going to be an organic gardener, you will no doubt encounter another type of invader called weeds. These will grow very rapidly and unless you are on top of your game, and under root seeing them as they show up, they will multiply ferociously and began to crowd your crop causing them to possibly fail in the long run. Without pesticides, mulching is probably the best solution to maintaining a healthy crop from the invasion of the common weed.

The last thing you should consider is the amount of time that you have in order to maintain your organic garden. Gardening organically can be a very time-consuming process depending upon how much of a garden you would like to maintain. It would probably be a good idea to start small, make sure that your soil and preparations are ready for possible invaders, and then set out to make the organic garden of your dreams.
